Top 5 Tuesday 104

As suggested by the Bri man, i'm going to post up a top 5 'best' list for the past year, except instead of milking it for weeks by changing topics, this one list will comprise them all: 1-album, 2-movie, 3-book, 4-concert, 5-TV series. It was a fairly solid year for many releases, movies in particular, so choosing only one should prove quite interesting.

Top 5 'Bests' of 2006
  1. Bruce Springsteen - Seeger Sessions. A tough call for sure, but The Boss wins out. It's his liveliest album in years, and the 'off the floor' jamming vibe is a throwback to the way albums used to be recorded. The material, players and instrumentation are all second to none, proving that you're never too old to return to your roots, or in this case the roots of american music.
  2. Stranger Than Fiction. As-yet-to-be-viewed movies notwithstanding, this nifty little journey taken by Will Ferrell is a fantastical (and believable) combination of reality and fantasy.
  3. Chuck Klosterman IV. Books are tough to call, as you are rarely reading a book released within the current year, so out of the few i have that would qualify, this collection of Chuck's pop culture articles in their original unedited form, along with new prefaces, tops my list. Bob Dylan: The Essential Interviews would top my list of books 'received but as of yet unread', and A Season in Hell with the Rolling Stones would be on there for 'currently reading and is awesome thus far'.
  4. Gomez - The Guvernment. Many big names came through town this year, but getting to see one of my fave bands for the first time, touring a new record, and putting on a damn fine show to boot was a highlight. Extra points scored for the bass player getting drunker as the show went on until he was sitting on the drum riser for the rest of the night!
  5. Dexter. A very recent discovery, i ended up watching the whole first season On Demand over a couple of nights. Serial killers have never had so much (pretend) personality. I am now torn between waiting for the coming season, or getting the next book that it is sure to be based on.

Hats off to Vag for impersonating me......those who would have investigated a little further would know I never post using "Gay" I always use "Jay" and sometimes add the "gay" beside it. That and the email Sherk used.....thejerk@hotmail.com??? Sherk "the jerk"??

Killer....I guess I give you too much credit.....or maybe you have just consumed too muck Vodka and the brain cells are lacking...j/k dude!!!

As for Vag....kudos for pulling the wool over everyone's eyes...but you said you wouldnt post anyway....so I guess you are getting soft in your old age...so for that I will now refer to you as "Metal Vulva" going forward...still female body parts.....just now soft core instead of hard-core!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And hats off to Marty-party for some of the digs...even though I am now Postie...coming soon to a mailbox near you....and his cribbage dominence. Scotty gets a mention for his mad dart skills!

Can't wait for the table top hockey tourneys and the future pong games at Gerg's!!!!!!!!!!

Cheers,

Posted by: Killerov on January 19, 2007 07:14 PM

killerov, line us up some flights-included gigs at fabrique! \m/

Posted by: scotty on January 19, 2007 06:48 PM

Why go to Barney's when you can go to Fabrique? Oh yeah Ruskie biatches!

And Marty...Gay can't think of more than 1 topic at a time, hence why I wasn't surprised to see nothing from him.

Posted by: Killerov on January 18, 2007 01:54 PM

gay didnt even make a list and he is tryn to get somethin started ... i have no fuel unless i ask him what his fav color of penis is, or what his fav job of the year was or .. or ...or everyone commin out this sat to watch the boys at barneys?

Posted by: martyparty on January 18, 2007 09:35 AM

perhaps you should've asked Marty Party what his favorite ACTIVITY of the year was.....was it when you and Jen learned the Cha Cha or perhaps Lambada, the forbidden dance (or is that one next week)

Im not sure how to only pick one album of the year since choosing between different genres is tough...id have to agree with killer buckfuckingcherry was awesome...antiflags album kicked ass and i know there aint a lot of country folk out there but dixie chicks album was tight.
2) movie seems like i watched it a while ago but hooligans or green street hooligans was my fav why? for those who havent seen it drinking in mass quantities random fighting for the sake of fighting mix in a little more drinking and fighting and you got yerself a grade a fuckin flick
3)books not on partys fun list - however did read a streghts finder book for work and found out what ever you do well u should over do that and forget about your weaknesses - anything that says i should drink more and watch more sports ,play more guitar hero is an alright book
4)i dont have time for concerts when i haven fairmonts and lost dogs to go watch 2-3 times a week
5)show is a tough pick... toss up between 3 entourage lost and dexter - all were watched in short periods of time as i hate watching shows week to week, only show i do that with is office witch is also killer

Wow!
I have been out of it this year man...
Pretty sad huh?
Albums: Outlaw - Alabama 3, The New Mars Volta... Not even sure if these are '06 releases.
Movies: NOT Benchwarmers that's for sure! LOL! Seen a bunch, can't remember any :(
Books: C'mon! You kiddin'? Alls I read lately is Computer programming and Home recording books - pretty sad huh?
Live Shows: This is where I've DROPT the ball this year! Tried to see Bedouin Soundclash but scalpers were hitting up me for tix???
TV: Watched like 2 episodes of Rockstar - BAH!
Pretty bad year for pop culture really. Have we hit rock bottom yet? Can we start the Ascent yet?
Big Love.
PS. Now I know why Scotty 'didn't' milk this!

1. Nothing really sticks out...oh wait! BUCKFUCKINGCHERRY! Tanks Scotty for saving 2006.
2. Casino Royal: Probablly the best Bond film ever.
3. Learning Russian for Adults: The language is fucked!
4. PEARL JAM: Prague in September...a triumphant return to fuel my addiction to their live performances!
5. 24! I cannot get enough of this show!

Finny,

I forgot to mention in the last post - Monique was just here visiting me. She was here over the weekend.

We did it up old school styles. Jello shooters included. I took her out this bar that makes me feel like I'm at CTO again for Mo'Gravy, but slightly more grown up.

Good times were had. Followed by a mild hangover. Sleeping till noon helped the recovery process.

I busted it out the Canada Day video. The infamous video. Man were we hammered and young and stupid!

Crazy good times!

Happy New Year Everyone!!

1. Arctic Monkeys -Whatever People Say I Am,That's What I'm Not .. .One more fanatic new band out of the UK!
2. An Inconvenient Truth - Holy Fuck everbody.... we need to get our shit together!
3. The Lonely Planet Guide to Morocco - A few more weeks and we're off to Africa!
4. DMB- June 13 Molson Amp. Not the best DMB I've seen, but great anyway.
5. Lost - I've got no idea where it's goin' but I'm liking the ride.

1. Incubus - Light Grenades - one of their best albums to date. Great song after song. As other fans have said this one is comparabel to Make Yourself.

2. Borat - this is hands down the funniest movie I have ever seen. I laughed from start to finish, which I have never done while watching any other movie. I was still laughing the next day.

3. Angels and Demons - the prequal to the Davinci Code. I wish I had know about this book before I read the Davinci Code. It was way better with way more action.

4. Franz Ferdinand with Death Cab for Cutie - The Collisieum. Bought some tickets of a scalper and then got 3 free tickets from a friend who works for a radio station. My friend and I took are 5 crappy tickets and magically turned them in to floor tickets by smoozing our way in. The last song they played is my all time favorite Franz Ferdinand song, one I consider to be my own personal anthem.

5. How I Met Your Mother. It is my new addiction and is followed by my other new favorite show, The Class. How I Met Your Mother is very reminiscent of Friends - minus the coffee shop hang out. Also, stars Neil Patrick Harris (Doogie Howser MD) and Alyson Hannigan (American Pie's Band Camp Girl).

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
