Top 5 Tuesday 101

Ladies and gentlemen (and i use that term loosely), i bring you Gay's first guest post....

This week's top 5 will be a flashback to those yester-years of television.....given the age difference for some.....I am sure there will be lots of variety. Note.....this topic is for non-cartoon shows as it was already covered in a recent post.

Top 5 TV Shows from when you were young

  1. Battlestar Galactica - "By your command" I am sure there are few from my generation that didn't see this show. Although created because of all the hype from "Star Wars" this show had its own flavour. It tended to push the limits a little further with babes...booze.....and gambling......and of course the death of a few cylons and colonial warriors. For all those fans of the old show it is being shown on Space TV......I am not a big fan of the new show.
  2. The Dukes of Hazzard - It was inevitable that were would be at least one tv show about cars on here. The short list was between Startsky & Hutch.....Knight Rider.....Hardcastle & McCormick....and the Dukes. The Dukes won hands down if not just strickly based on the T&A equation. How many of you out there had the die cast set that had the General Lee.... Daisy's Jeep.... Jesse's truck..... Cooter's Tow-Truck.... Boss Hogg's Caddy..... and Roscoe's Police Car?
  3. C.H.i.Ps - Granted this could have been lumped in with the car shows but I just couldn't do it. There was never a bad guy that Ponch and John couldn't catch on their motorcycles. And the funky 70's beats kept your head bouncin'.
  4. Night Court - This show used to run on the same night as Cheers....and at times I thought it was funnier and better written. It was always a little quirkier than Cheers and maybe thats why I thought it had more appeal. It had a great cast with each adding their odd character traits into the story lines.
  5. Wrestling - I am sure there are very few guys out there that weren't glued to the TV whenever it came on. Whether it was the cheesy Canadian stuff that used to broadcast on Saturday afternoons......or Saturday Night's Main Event at night......this was before it was on daily!!!! And the big names were Greg "the hammer" Valentine...... The "Junkyard Dog"..... Jimmy "the Superfly" Snuka...... Tito Santana..... and the list goes on.

Honourable Mentions: The A-Team.... it just bugged me that with all those bullets no one ever died. The Facts of Life.....I had crushes on Blair and Jo. Good-Times.....because it was DYNO-mite!!

Posted by: Jay on November 8, 2006 08:50 PM

I guess a better way to put it would be the majority of the posters are from the 70's generations...while the 80's kids are just along for the ride.

Posted by: Jay on November 8, 2006 08:48 PM

maybe that's because i don't post unless i think i've got something good to say... seems you don't follow the same rule ;) and i've posted 2x jerk. my cheating answer should count for 100 posts what with my huge rant and all... !

Posted by: Spry on November 8, 2006 07:17 PM

maybe he was only counting people who have posted on this site more than once

Posted by: Jay on November 8, 2006 04:18 PM

You guys had TV when you were young??? There was no TV when I was young...I walked twenty-five miles to school every morning uphill both ways through year 'round blizzards carrying my younger siblings on my back to the one-room schoolhouse where I maintained a straight-A average despite the full-time after-school job at the local textile mill where I worked for 35 cents an hour just to help keep the family from starving to death.
Ok....I did enjoy the occasional episode Gilligan's Island!!!

Posted by: Mattyy on November 8, 2006 12:39 AM

1. SNL - the gap girls, church lady, sprockets and adam sandler tunes like 'piece of shit car' and 'hannukah'.

2. Saved by the Bell - ac slater in gross spandex/acid-wash jeans, the kelly kapowski love triangle, screech being shoved in his locker, and lisa's 'trendy styles' - yay flourescent EVERYTHNG.

3. Fresh Prince - now this is story all about how my life got flipped turned upside down... blah blah. find me someone from our generation who can't recite every single word to that theme song.

4. Growing Pains - leonardo dicaprio as the poor little homeless boy who slept in some closet before the ever-heroic seaver family adopted him.

5. Who's the Boss - oh hey, hey oh.

** Shows like Cheers, Night Court and The Cosby Show I think I watched more in reruns years after they ended then I did when they were actually aired!

Posted by: Spry on November 7, 2006 11:56 PM

I'm answering this although I consider myself to be young, still..

5. Dallas - I was a bit young for this, but everyone knows who shot JR!
4. Miami Vice
3. Facts of Life (where I first saw George Clooney!)
2. Murphy Brown

No way Ultimate Warrior all the way!!

Posted by: Batman on November 7, 2006 12:28 PM

the list "when you were younger" frightens me a little because Scotty and gay have some of my fav old school shows as well ... so if they were watching them when they were younger where the fuck were my parents to stop me from watching the same kinda shows when i was in early public school..... maybe this explains some things
1) Cheers and night court... both had the player who always got the girl and were both cocky and a little slimy...hmmm.
2) Wrestling has to be in their, time periods would be from Hogan macho man Andrea giant type era to degeneration x era two words suck it
3) Old school SNL was awesome it has gone way way down hill now, maybe someday it will make a comeback
4) Fine ill fuckn say it...but im gonna lump them together fresh prince and saved by the bell...everyone watched it and if u say u didnt then you are prob part of the gang who is 30 or over .... Even so u prob still watched
5) Late night "showcase" yes the channel, growing up I didn’t have access to good material and some of those French movies had some hot babes in it ... sweet dreams

Posted by: martyparty on November 7, 2006 11:06 AM
