Top 5 Tuesday Eighty-Four

On the surface this would appear to be geared towards travelers, but your answers could also be local, as well as national/international. If you've been somewhere that's left a lasting impression on you, for whatever reason, then you have some material to work with. From Paris, Ontario to Paris, France, i'm sure everyone's been to at least 5 different cities in their lifetime! I think the Bri Man, Rich and Killerov might need a few days to mull this one over.

Top 5 Cities/Towns Visited
  1. Budapest, Hungary. Massive, Beautiful, Dirty, Historic, Cultured, Revitalized. I'm sure everyone knows by now that i spent the better part of a year there with 3 other crazy fuckers living and working out of a 4 bedroom flat. For better and for worse, i wouldn't trade that time for the world.
  2. Amsterdam, Netherlands. What can one say? Sex, drugs and culture all crammed into one mad canal city.
  3. Strba, Slovakia. I'm gonna double check the town name with Gee, but the name of the town is secondary to large 25 cent beers and walks like this.
  4. Offenburg, Germany. Our home away from home during the Red/Uisce Beatha European tour, this little town near the French border was everything i envisioned a smaller German town to be; hills, vineyards, cobblestone streets and window boxes filled with flowers. It was also the site of my first out-of-country gig.
  5. Bala/Nine Mile Lake, Ontario. I had to list Bala as the closest town to the lake, but i have been to the lake almost every summer as far back as i can imagine and as most of you know, the beauty and solace that can be achieved in Northern (relatively speaking) Ontario is second to none.

Honourable Mention - L.A., California. The home of the legendary cock rock club scene! Long live The Rainbow.

After a brief absence and 1 hard drive format later.... I'm back to an awsome top 5.

1. NYC -I love it here! been a couple of times and it was so much fun. I you are into movies and/or TV there isn't much in NY that you won't recognize from somewhere.
2. Hong Kong - NYC of Asia ...sights/sounds/smells so much going on 24hrs a day....
3. Cairo - I love the desert and Cairo is in the Desert. The drive from the airport blew my mind ...everything is plain beige buildings.... and then out of nowhere you see the pyramids rising up out of the skyline
4. Sydney - The bridge climb(you gotta do it if youre there) gives you a amazing view of this amazing city!
5. Amsterdam - Do I really need to say anything besides the great architecture and canals????

Honourable Mention..... Venice,Los Angeles, Montreal,Las Vegas,and Bangkok

Posted by: the-bri-man on May 10, 2006 06:35 PM

1. Yarmouth, MA - Cape Cod is the only place to spend the summer.
2. Vegas, baby, Vegas!
3. London, England
4. Paris, France
5. Austin, TX (despite being in Texas, it's a really cool place with a great music scene).

Then there's the ever exciting Syracuse, NY where I went to college, but of course, Boston is the greatest place on earth!

Posted by: amy on May 9, 2006 10:10 PM

Nice topic dude! These are not all necessarily 'cities', but close enough.

1. Sydney, Australia - Think Toronto, but bigger, cleaner & sea-side instead of lake side. I lived in Sydney for 5 months and could have stayed forever. Nothing beats taking the city bus to one of Sydney's gorgeous beaches!

2. Cauitta, Costa Rica - This place was spectacular! The people treated you like their own children & made sure you had everything you needed. The jungles were absolutely gorgeous & watching 7ft leather back turtles lay their eggs while you sat directly beside them was beyond words!

3. Cracow, Australia - Not too many people would believe that I would survive in the Outback, but I ended up living in Cracow for just over a month. My sister and I worked at a pub in this mining town (the only customer related establishment in town). The population was a staggering 15 & I would put money on that also being the number of teeth in the mouths of locals combined. Loads of snakes, spiders & lizards... I had to get over my girly-ness very quickly!

4. Arenal, Costa Rica - The sight of an active volcano made this completely worth it! Once the sun sets, you can only see the glowing orange outline of the volcano.

5. Beachcomber Island, Fiji - I went on this trip all by myself & it was one of the most peaceful travel experiences I've ever had. Being on a remote island in the middle of the ocean forces you to completely relax.

honorable mention: Maho Bay, St. Maarten - 747 planes flying directly above you. Terrifying, but amazing!http://www.fotosearch.com/MDG225/wt24041/

1. Mira, Portugal. This is where my family comes from, and I've been lucky enough to have visited many times. Beach community, cheap beer, lots of beautiful women from all over Europe. Good times.

2. Tui, Spain. Small town near the Spain, Portugal boarder. Really nice town, this is what visiting Europe is about.

3. Fatima, Portugal. One of the most religious places in Europe, supposed site of a miracle. (if you beleive in that sort of thing) Really cool architecture, huge cathedral.

4. Lake of Bays, Ontario. Former girlfriend had a rich uncle with a multi-million dollar cottage, I sponged off that family for a while. Oh, and Muskoka is cool too.

5. Fucking-ham palace, London. Never left that place sober, not once!
