This week's question was spawned by the proverbial 'desert island' discussion. However, there won't be 5 options available - only 1. It's actually a two-parter, but will revolve around your one initial answer. The question and subquestion read as follows: If you had to live out your life listening to the complete recorded catalog of ONE band or artist, who would that be, and subquestion, if it came down to a single album by said artist, what would that album be.
The ground rules state that only official album releases qualify, including official live releases, but not bootlegs or greatest hits collections. Clear? Good. Take some time to think about it. Don't get stuck with a one dimensional band for the rest of your life!
1-A: The Band. One band, 3 vocalists, 46 different instruments and as many musical styles all delivering the defining sound of Americana. Nobody sounds like The Band and no band ever will. Their influence had an immediate impact on their peers and is still reaching into the consciousness of modern music today. To quote George Harrison, they are "the best band in the history of the universe." 'Nuff said!
1-B: The Last Waltz is probably the greatest concert achievement ever committed to tape and film. I could die a happy man listening to this seminal event on a daily basis.
just entertaining myself buddy b\c post are so few n far between :) jj XOXOXO

isn't 'the stranger' the name for sitting on your hand until it's numb and then jerking off so it seems like someone else is doing it? that's a pretty wild theme for an album! i guess if you're gonna be stranded with it for life it's good to have options like that.
Posted by: scotty on April 14, 2006 01:44 PMI guess we need to change Vag's handle to Soft Rock Vagina!!! But a decent call none the less.
Posted by: Jay (Gay) on April 14, 2006 01:23 PMThe Stranger? Cat, I never wanted to accuse you of having good taste but... I love that album! Just not sure I could listen to "Uptown Girl" or "Tell Her..." if stuck with his entire collection...
It's like picking April Wine, "Nature of the Beast" but getting stuck with some of their other shait...
Big Love.
Bruce Springsteen
The Wild The Innocent and The E Street Shuffle
Classic Bruce in the his Dylan days before he started to scale down his lyrics for albums to come
Posted by: Bri Man on April 14, 2006 09:23 AMThis is no surprise if you have ever lived w/Vagina...I heard the Joel blasting from the Sony Box in the shitter whilst the Vag was shaving his pubes/head many times! Although Vag, I am surprised the Blue Bonez never got an honourable mention?
Posted by: Killerov on April 14, 2006 01:32 AMUnexpected...I have nothing negative to say to you, Vagina. Huh.

Ahhh wise Amy eh Im quite aware and fond and own and thank u for ur thoughtfulness :)xoxo(and great taste in music aswell-ROCK ON!)beauty.
yes, i didn't exlude box sets directly, but i did say "if it came down to a single album by said artist", not a single collection that isn't entitled greatest hits! so upon further review i believe the (official) bootleg series is comprised of many volumes that were released separately first, so you can take a volume, and definitely no full studio release collections! technically you do actually get the full catalog; part B is only "if pressed", or if your island campfire gets out of had and you have to grab your stereo and one album and run!!
Posted by: scotty on April 11, 2006 09:11 PMDylan, but of course! Not only do I love, love, love him, but I get some Band and some Dead thrown in.
And my one choice is the Bootleg Series 1 - 3 rare and unreleased 1961 - 1991, which I contend is not explictly excluded from contention under the no bootleg/greatest hits rule because it's not really a live bootleg, it's alternative takes and unreleased songs and it's not a greatest hits collection. You didn't say anything about box sets!
And since it seems that box sets are allowed, I'm going to remind Batman about the Zep box set, The Complete Studio Recordings - which most definetly isn't a bootleg or a greatest hits collection.
Posted by: amy on April 11, 2006 08:50 PMIt was short form for 'Zeppelin.'
Posted by: The Captain on April 11, 2006 08:50 PMWhat can I say I have predictable great taste :)
p\s I thought u of all Justin would spell ZeppElin right?!?WTF XOXO
Scotty, I told ya that Rosa would pick Dylan. Our little boy's all growns up. Good choices so far (and the surprising choice of Justine with The Led Zepplins).
1a) The Rolling Stones
1b) Exile on Main Street
Huge catalog, great rocking songs with a country and blues twist. Along with one of the most kick-ass albums of all time. It was a painstaking choice.
Holy lay off Lou..but good choice xoxo
nicely done steveO ill hang out w\u if i ever get sick of Zepp(lie)
hey fuckers, top five songwriters of all time??? Dylan, Dylan, Dylan Dylan and Dylan.
1A. Bob Dylan - mind blowing 35 year catologue of music that defined the sixties and seventies with words to provoke the mind into bliss, thought, and wonder.
1B. toss up between The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan, and Blonde on Blonde. But i'd stick with the Blonde especially for "most likely you go your way (and i'll go mine)"
Hi Everyone. Long time reader, first time blogger.
1a. Blind Melon. Part blues, part rock, all kick ass. Hoon possesed a voice that could rival anyone past or present, (that includes Plant)and the musicianship and songwriting is awsome. The only band from that era that's still in regular rotation.
1b. Blind Melon- Blind Melon. Unfortunately the Blind Melon catalog is small, but this album is great from start to finish.
ha!ha!Just pick Zeppelin my friend save yourself the regret and torture for another day :) XOXO
Posted by: batman on April 11, 2006 01:09 PMmatty. don't lose sleep over it buddy! just pick one artist and record and post it before the suicide attempt!
Posted by: scotty on April 11, 2006 12:55 PMwhat would of been a joke was if someone said.. 1a)The Gentlemen :)-1 mind blowing bass playa w\great hair, 1 multi talented serenading Jimmy Page wannabe guitar\bass\harmonica\singer + 1 fuckin incredible drummer giving new name to "Bang it like Bonham" bringing new life to their covers!
1b)Tangerin disc 4 Batman xoxo
HA!HA!
Not depressing at all just dedication dork and nothing wrong w\my Zoso world-tattoo n all :)
XOXO Cheers Matty!!Enjoy a shot of JD ha!ha!
1 a)Led Zeppelin-1 distinctive tenor voice, 1 amazingly talented one of a kind guitarist, 1 multi talented low key bass player and last but certainly not least 1 off the charts drummer leaving audiences in aww going on half hour rampages evolved 2gether forming what became one of the best rock bands 2 follow of that ara and continuing still into the present almost 40 years of magick(mythically)under their belts(as well as a few too many notches-lol)Still hitting 'best of' charts today and being the rock that bands of today still try 2 match up 2!!
1 b)Houses of the Holy-MMmm their all so good.
YOU ARE KIDDING ME RIGHT???
1 Band?
This is the most depressing thought ever... It's like we've all tumbled into the fantastic/horrific Zoso world of Batman...
And Scotty, you've GOT to be kidding me. If I had to watch 1 band live I might pic the "Hawks" but...
If it was RECORDED music and it had to be a POPular artist I might be inclined to pic the Beatles. Amazing songwriting, great production and adequate performances. Marley, Elvis or even ZZ Top could keep it interesting for me at least until I slit my wrists. Miles would be a safer bet 'cause he had sooooo much stuff. Maybe like a Beethoven, Mozart or Schubert just 'cause so many cats have done so many recorded interpretations.
Either way, this topic sucks! I'm off to drink some sort of cleaning solvent just to wash the thought outta my mind, LOL!!!
Big Love,
YOU ARE GAY!
