This week i'm going for singer/songwriters that have had a great impact on pop and folk music over the past several decades. These are guys that write the lyrics and music, perform the songs live, often solo on acoustic guitar, and also have them covered by other artists. We're going for solo artists here, not songwriting teams, which could be another topic down the road. Let's give everyone a get-out-of-jail-free card and say that Bob Dylan would be on most, if not all lists, so he's already accounted for.
...Feeling... ill... :S
LOL!
Big Love.
Pauls, I also enjoy the sleepover episode. The 'bitch' you refer to is Amanda, one of Kelly's slutty friends. Another fabulous ground breaking episode - 'David Silver gets crabs from Ariel the publicist whore'.
The sweet BH90210 memories! I'll probably have to take a few weeks off when they come out with all 10 seasons on DVD.
Posted by: chilli on March 13, 2006 08:44 PMI stand corrected...looks like this week's top 5 has been demanded!
Love the Donna Martin graduates episode!
One of my faves - Skeleton's in the closet...Brenda has a sleep over with the girls and some bitch makes them all turn on each other.
I think every episode was life chaning for me. LOL
Ah the Pear Pit!
Posted by: Pauls on March 13, 2006 06:25 PMI don't view us as 'sick' Captain. That's your f'ing opinion, man. I view us as 'enriched'. BH90210 was the. best. show. ever. Who, in the history of life, was as cool as Dylan McKay? as 'Color Me Bad' fly as David Silver? or as smooth with the ladies as Steve Sanders?
Scotty... next topic - 'BH90210 life changing episodes'
My #1 - Donna Martin Graduates!
Posted by: Chilli on March 13, 2006 02:47 PM...you sick sons of bitches...
Posted by: The Captain on March 13, 2006 12:53 PMDon't be dissin' the second best series of my youth man! Beside, it was the birthplace of Melrose Place!...BTW 21 Jump Street is number 1!
Posted by: Killerov on March 13, 2006 12:28 PMholy big fan. :)
Posted by: batman on March 13, 2006 11:10 AMMatty.... you disappoint me. It's the Peach Pit man, not the Pear Pit. The owner was Nat Bussichio.
Posted by: Chilli on March 13, 2006 10:11 AMBouts... complaining about too much music??? I feel like I've entered BIZARRO werld :S Wait, she's just waiting for a topic about TV/Movies. C'mon Scatty, you can deliver on this one. How 'bout best 90210 episodes or sumptin' LOL! Personally, I like the one where you see Dilbert's ass in the raw. :S Or where Brenda discovers kiddie porn in the back room of the Pear Pit. LMAO!!! Damn that Pear Pit guy (Mr. Roper was it?) He was the original Michael Jackson!
Big Love.
music=life fackers xoxo
Posted by: batman on March 12, 2006 03:44 PM3 of 20, pauls. :)
Posted by: scotty on March 10, 2006 06:52 PMoh my bad, 1 out of 20 is not about music.
Posted by: Pauls on March 10, 2006 04:17 PMyou son of a bitch! not sure which album your talkin about? his first wasn't the strongest, but his second sure does rock!
Posted by: Steve-O on March 10, 2006 04:05 PMpauls, you DID see last week's topic, right?
Posted by: scotty on March 10, 2006 02:57 PMWell, he obviously can't tie his own shoes because his solo album was #1 for me to #2 on! And besides...Layne was the stylish one of the group. And yes he had a name for his penis. He called is Steve O. \m/
Posted by: Killerov on March 10, 2006 11:25 AMBaby, so was I!
to Cantrell's credit: we die young, them bones, down in a hole, rooster, got me wrong, what the hell have i, grind, would?, it ain't like that, bleed the freak, sea of sorrow, sunshine, put you down, i know somethin (bout you), heaven beside you, over now, don't follow....just to name a few.
and the rest were collaborative with Layne!
who's your daddy killer??
Posted by: Steve-O on March 10, 2006 10:52 AM*yawns*
Posted by: metal vagina on March 10, 2006 10:37 AMI was talking Lyrics Baby!
Posted by: Killerov on March 10, 2006 04:39 AMSorry Killer, for the record, Jerry Cattrell was the principle song writer in AIC. Layne was just the singer. Layne did write a couple, but Jerry had all the hits!
and to really piss you off, Pearl Jam is hittin 3 dates within a two hour radius of London in May!.......mmmmmmmm sweet!!
Posted by: Steve-O on March 10, 2006 12:29 AMScotty time for some new topics. Perhaps ones that don't relate back to music. Just like back in the day...as much as I hate to say it...there is more than just music!
Posted by: Pauls on March 9, 2006 06:26 PMCharles in Charge? Chachi? LOL!! Vag, wasn't David Wanless a huge Joan Baez fan? I thought I saw one SG video featuring him playing harpsichord for retirees from the Microwave Popcorn factory??? :S Not sure on that one. Limiting topic for sure. Folk/pop. All the best artists are dead and all the ones we remember are over-rated. I would consider Marley and Franti in a solo category. I love Robert Johnson and Paul Rogers as strummers who sing and write. Sting comes to mind. But, alas these artists all fall left of the rigidness that is the cowbell this week :P In fact, the only artists that have been mentioned who fall neatly into this solo folk/pop/singer/songwriter genre are Cat, James, Jim?, Jack, Gordon... Not up to speed on Pete or Phil so I reserve comment on these. But I do hear that Monster trucks pens a mean lyric so I'll throw in a vote for them.
Big Love.
CLASSIC: David Gilmour, Roger Waters, Neil Young, John Lennon and Jimbo Morrisson.
NEW: Eddie Vedder, Kurt Cobain, Chris Cornell, Layne Stanley, and Billy Corrighan...I feel all these guys inspired a lot of kids and it's only a matter of time before the youth wakes up and rediscovers the guitar solo!
Posted by: Killerov on March 9, 2006 10:30 AMJim Cuddy/ Greg Keelor combo -the play together but write their own songs individually
Rodney Crowell - not a huge fan, but his songs are all over country music
Willie Nelson -duh!
Paul Simon
I kinda have to agree with Vag on this topic....kinda a mish/mash of other already coverd areas.....but I didn't since Elton John or David Bowie on the list so I will add them....and Fruit Loops....before they added those gay green and purple ones.
Posted by: Jay aka Gay on March 8, 2006 02:59 PMbarbara streisand???WTF
as if i forgot about janis joplin!!
new comer serena ryder is on the wave for decades to come i think-check her out.xoxo
Bruce Cockburn, and of course, Barbara Streisand.
Posted by: The Captain on March 8, 2006 12:19 PMI thought this topic was only about folk music.. I missed the pop part. I may have to re-think.
Scotty - is someone mocking your topic? I think it's important to hear the classics in a genre so you can appreciate the current. Look at that, I just skipped right over becoming my mother and moved right into becoming my grandmother. Wo. But that's ok with me. She had better taste in music than my mother (who lives for Barbara Streisand).
