Top 5 Tuesday Sixty-Seven

Continuing on with the same 'best' theme from last week, let's move over to the cinema and list'em up. This time there shall be no 'discovered in' blanket, just the best films of '05, straight up.

Top 5 Movies of 2005 (that i've seen)

  1. Dig! I believe this first made the festival scene in '04, but didn't receive full release until '05, so i can honestly sneak it in as my top pick. This is an unbelievable rock n' roll documentary cranked up to 11. I am a newfound convert to the revivalist ways of the Brian Jonestown Massacre, and could probably watch this film on a weekly basis and not tire of it's pure rock exploits. The music, the bands, the biz, the drugs, the insanity; they're all present in flying colours. Do yourself a favour and dig this film asap!
  2. Sin City. Finally, a comic book (sorry, graphic novel) movie the way it should be done. Marv rules the world.
  3. Wedding Crashers. The annual entry in the Vince Vaughn laugh-fest category. He's on a roll, babies!
  4. No Direction Home. Bobby D as intimately as he's ever been seen. Still not all the layers of the onion, but fucking great nonetheless!
  5. Broken Flowers. Bill Murray picks up where he left off with Lost in Translation and plays deadpan comedy to perfection. The way the movie is left open to interpretation has me onto a third viewing within a one week period. That's good cinema. As a sidenote, i'm also exploring a theory that the movie subtly references other Murray films, but another viewing is required to either confirm, or disconfirm that suspicion.

Honourable Mentions - Corpse Bride, Stripes Extended Cut, 40 Year Old Virgin.

Know how I know you're gay?...'cause you didn't have heterosexual porn on your list. No, Rosa...I do not want to watch School of Cock with you.

scotty, fit your as in a teacup is not a movie, there is no plot, no storyline, or even a star. Teacup is porn. now if wanted to compile top 5 porn movies i'd gladly submit my list!

Posted by: Rosa on January 12, 2006 12:01 PM

rosa, i'm shocked and appalled that "you could fit your ass in a teacup" didn't top your list! speaking of,........ what gives, man?! justine, jimmy's birthday isn't a movie from last year - save it!!

gonna sound like repeats, but here goes....

1. wedding crashers - 3 times in theatres, and it still makes me crack up! the dvd rocks

2. sin city - twice in the theatre, and the recut and extended dvd for christmas makes steve-o a happy boy! this dvd will blow your mind!

3. bob dylan no direction home - bought before it aired and was not disappointed in the least!

4. 40 year old virgin - more low brow laughs......hey scotty, you know how i know your gay?...cause you have a rainbow bumper sticker on your car that says "i love it when balls are in my face!"

5. kiss kiss bang bang - i could'nt believe how great this movie is. Who better to pull off a gay PI named Gay Perry than Val Kilmer.

hon mention: Star Wars 3, but that goes without saying, which is why it's not on the list. Walk The Line, i had chills for the whole movie! Batman Begins, Christian Bale rocks the role!
Crash/Hotel Rwanda - very depressing and true outlook on this world of ours...why can't we all just get along!

Opps, corrections, didn't see the Wedding Crashers till 2006. But very early 2006 :)

2005 was a lame year for movies as far as I'm concerned. I didn't really get to see very many, so here goes...

1. Sin City - I bought it after one viewing. So well done.
2. 40-year Old Virgin - laughed my ass off!
3. Harry Potter & the Goblet of Fire - always good!
4. Brother's Grim - was acctually quite impressed with this one. It's cool how they incorporate the fairy tales.
5. Wedding Crashers - I rank it at number 5, because technically I didn't see it till 2005. And...I love Vince Vaughan. Damn Jennifer Aniston!

Posted by: Pauls on January 11, 2006 04:43 PM

although... apparently a film called murderball came out in 2005 about full contact quadriplegic wheelchair rugby... i feel that would be fun to watch...
