Due to some hip-hoppin' and hard rockin' in Barrie yesterday, i bring you the first top 5 wednesday. The rock gloves are off this week as we step into the octagon in search of the top 5 MONSTER ROCK RIFFS. I'm talkin' about kickass, unstoppable, neck-snapping, metals in the air, bone crunching riffs. We're not looking for rock SONGS here, we're looking for those songs that contain raging RIFFS within their monstrous structures that are instantly recognizable and whip you into an immediate rock frenzy. They don't have to be by 'metal' bands per se, as long as they are laying down the heavy fuckin' riffage! \m/
- Back in Black - AC/DC. Let's get this one out of the way right now - one of the heaviest riffs on the planet.
- Voodoo Child - Jimi Hendrix. When that guitar intro starts you know exactly what you are about to witness, and that quickly becomes the fiercest jam Jimi ever laid to tape.
- Black Betty - Ram Jam. The intro slash bridge to this track gets me every single time, and i feel like the baddest motherfucker alive.
- Outshined - Soundgarden. Driving home from college one afternoon with my buddy, he was quickly pulled to the curb and ticketed for doing 85 clicks down Oxford St. This song was playing on his car stereo at the time.
- Know Your Enemy - RATM. A nice funky intro groove baits you for what is about to be unleashed, which is a ferocious guitar riff that sends you jumping off backyard decks into dudes' beers.
