The Led Zeppelin Forum

Seeing as healthy discussion about the Mighty Zep seems to occur during pretty much every blog posting about music, this posting will now constitute the place where Zep can be idolized, worshipped, appreciated, discussed, hated, trashed or ignored. I even added it as an official category down the right side, so come back to it and post as often as you like. I will weigh in with my 2 cents and then everyone can thrash it out from there, allowing the other posted topics at hand to remain, well, the topics at hand.

Uppers

  • Bonham is my favourite drummer of all time, and one of the main reasons i started and continued playing drums. I wore out my cassettes during the ending of Rock and Roll and Moby Dick.

  • Had a strong hand in the creation of the "70s Rock Sound", along with Sabbath, Deep Purple, etc.

  • Most songs from most albums remain relevant today.

  • Could pull off acoustic just as well as electric.

  • Everyone in the world knows Stairway.

  • Each guy had his own cool symbol.

  • I had Bonham's 3 rings patched on my jean jacket.

  • John Paul Jones is a musical genius.

  • They just fucking rocked. Hard.

  • Defined rock and roll excess for generations to come.

Downers

  • By buying into their own definition of rock and roll excess, eventually became a parody of themselves.

  • Critisized early on for being derivative white-boy blues.

  • Deal with Devil leads to death of Bonham, death of Plant's son, and Jimmy's unhealthy love for preteen girls.

  • Growth of their Myth could be tarnishing their true legendary status.

  • Stairway becomes waaaay overplayed, leading to it's ban from being noodled by guitarists in music shops worldwide.

  • To paraphrase Chuck Klosterman on the topic of 8+ minute songs, "There are only two really long songs that get played on classic rock radio every day: American Pie and Stairway. Nobody changes the station on American Pie, they sing along through to the ending chorus. However, almost no one listens to Stairway all the way through." This is a valid point.

Zepp amazingly enough hasnt been fazed by her mothers death!Shes a killer really!(no lie)

Steveo-I already told you shes too old for you..next Thursday though I think(for Robyns departure)

Posted by: Batman on September 22, 2005 05:28 PM

hey Justine, is your mom coming out tonight?..........lol

Posted by: Rosa on September 22, 2005 02:57 PM

hey batman - I am stateside, but Canada is looking better and better every time I see our Buffoon in Chief.

Anyway, you saved me last night. I read your comment, then said: I need to turn off the Red Sox game and watch Almost Famous again. Thus I missed their complete implosion and loss, which is disturbing. Of course this wouldn't have been as big a problem if the friggin' Jays could have just handled the Yankees for us. But no.. ;)

Posted by: amy on September 22, 2005 01:21 PM

You SLG's keep proving my point about your Fucking Band....why do you only concentrate on one fucking song?...could it be that's the only exciting thing they can offer? :-) How long were they actually together as a complete band anyway?

Posted by: Killerov on September 22, 2005 12:56 PM

HA!HA!Plaster Casters!!!!:)

Posted by: Batman on September 22, 2005 12:16 PM

"As I walk down the highway all I do is sing this song"
For those of you who know how to rock-we salute you!Great points and history lesson Steveo:)
Jason Bonham instead of Grohl-WOW!
Vagina-Close your mouth your drooling all over again, dont be jealous "someday you'll be cool":)(almost famous)
Killer-Why so ignorant and blunt?Wheres the love?Captain would have to grow his hair back to portray Page on stage!
Story about a great band-and so many stories to tell...dabbling in black magik\buying aleister crowleys home in loch ness\having a myth about 'shark tales'\having girls drop at their knees in the hotel lobbies 4 you\fooling around w\little girls\etc etc etc just read Hammer of the Gods and enjoy!
We have Tangerine on video from last nite Justin:)

....this is a story about a band ....this is a story about a band....about a band...heck i just lost my train of thought...this is a story about a band ...well...it was just the right band for the time...

rock would be nuthin today if it were'nt for zeppelin, even if they ripped off muddy waters for half their first album with no actknowlegement. ask eddie van halen how jimmy influenced him......can you say finger tapping!! keep a close eye on the song remains the same, it's there! the list of guitarists is too huge to mention, it could be argued every guitar player today has been touched by jimmy's genius riffs! actually most good rock songs are revised zeppelin riffs, cause they rock so good! however jimmy's genius riffs would be nuthing without john paul to back them up and organize them into proper structure! bonhams thunder on your time is gonna come (quad shots on the bass drum yo)made him an instant legend
what more can be said?
love em dude

now if they'd just get together for one last tour with grohl behind the kick!

Posted by: Rosa on September 21, 2005 09:49 PM

Its not an argument anymore because you know Zeppelin will still be remembered 50 years from now and Pearl Jam will be a distant cry for 2nd!Its alright though Killer I hold nothing against you, your devoted to your band of choice-and thats good!!Thats what I was getting at earlier..
Amy-who are where are you?We need to have a Zeppelin day asap!!:)Almost Famous is THE best movie ever,Cameron Crowe is a genious. Some nights if I dont feel like watching the whole movie(tired)I throw in the dvd and turn to the beginning of that scene..."What do you love about music?".."First off everything..." "TANGERINE TANGERINE..."-LOVE IT!!Come to Brass 2nite Amy if you live here..Justin plays a mean Tangerine if you havent already heard!
(ScAtty I love this web log 2day I can talk about Zepp as much as I want and no one can say 'it wasnt the conversation at hand)

Posted by: Batman on September 21, 2005 06:35 PM

Holy Shit! Utopia!!

Batman - I think we may have been separated at birth. I decided at age 9 that Thank You would my wedding song and Tangerine.. well, I just la la la la love it. How great is it at the end of Almost Famous? Even though the song is longer than the montage and you're just looking at a black screen. Cameron Crowe is the man!

And I love Chuck Klosterman, but what he misses is that American Pie is sort of an upbeat, easy song to sing. You can do it everyday. Stairway is more of an emotional roller coaster that you can't go through every day. That said, it still is the most overplayed song of all time (and just painful at the jr high school dance with the whole speading up and slowing down thing).

Posted by: amy on September 21, 2005 02:42 PM

Time to fuck this blog topic! Bonham vs The Bears coached by Ditka...who'd win?

\m/

P.S. The only good thing that came from LZ was McReady's inspiration for Given to Fly! I fucking win ;-). ...and Scotty's inspiration.

Posted by: Killer on September 21, 2005 02:03 PM

Vagina your just jealous cuz you dont look hot in tight jeans...:)Off 2 London!

Posted by: Batman on September 21, 2005 12:29 PM

Oooh Batman likie!!
ScAtty your the man!!"Bang it like Bonham":)
Well lets see, everyone already knows my obsession,I cant hide it or even explain it!I grew up w\Zeppelin on my moms radio at home as a young child then being that I was a tom boy was known at my dads Harley bike shows as the "Dyer Maker Dancer"I was known for making all the guyz dance w\me to Dyer Maker!
I love everything about them, their mysterious, unbeleivably talented, unique, sexy, keep to themselves and have outstanding lyrics!!Shallow as Steveo states to only truly love one band(famous quote from Almost Famous if you didnt notice)-sorry but I honestly find myself asking guyz Im interested in first and foremost if they like Zeppelin-if they have no idea whom Im talking of,only know them from Stairway 2 Heaven or dont like them- SEE YAH!!
Since I was 9 probaly I gained this long lasting love and began stealing my dads records just to spin the wheel!(Zeppelin 3)Ive named my hampsters after them,I plan on naming my first born son Karoc and daughter Page and dog Kashmir!!Call me crazy but everyone has their own devoted interests and LED ZEPPELIN is mine!
If one day I do decide to wed I plan on having a Zeppelin tribute band there to play "Tangerine" and "Thank You"!!And common only the best movie(AF)has at least 2 songs in the soundtrack!
Im even planning a Martini Nite @ Sawmill and the theme is Zeppelin..'Black dog'=zambucca..'Tangerine'=orange smirnoff twist and OJ..'Whole lotta love'=Amaretto coconut rum n cran juice!!MMMMmmm...
Im planning a tattoo in the near future of ZOSO,any ideas where to put it?
