Top 5 Tuesday Fifty-Two

As we wind through the latter half of the summer, i feel that it's necessary to dedicate a top 5 list to that favourite, cold, most refreshing of summer beverages - beer. List up your faves, but let's not forget that beer, like music, can also define a specific period of your life, so take that into account as well!

Top 5 Favourite Beers

  1. Coors Light, cans. This is by far the most refreshing beer in existence. An ice cold can right out of the cooler, or a mountain stream if you have one available, and you are set for life. It's the silver bullet baby!
  2. Busch Light/PC Light. A tie goes to the favourite economy beers of the Palace era. Busch Light cans, PC Light bottles. Nary a Saturday night would end without at least a handful of stragglers back at the apartment sucking down all of our fresh cheap beers. A re-stocking would usually be necessary before the Bills games on Sunday.
  3. Dreher. THE beer of my time in Budapest. I can honestly say that we consumed more Dreher during our time there than all other beverages combined. Cheap, tasty, pint-size bottles, and available at every corner!
  4. Keith's. The favourite on-tap beer of London, Ontario.
  5. Molson Dry, cans. The original favourite discount beer of the college era. It was an even better value since it started out as a premium beer, so it actually tasted damn good!

Honourable Mentions - Blue. My first beer, since my dad always had some around. Also rumoured to be the freshest beer available for purchase, due to high volume sales. Megs, can you confirm or disconfirm this suspicion? Bud. Another college era staple that bonded together myself and the Big Finger. I collapsed through a porch railing and down onto the lawn at a party, and Matty came running over to make sure the case of Bud was ok. Cheers buddy.

"Keith’s – a distinct, light tasting ale that is smooth and well balanced. Keith’s complex flavour has DMS sulphur character, esteriness, maltiness, sweetness, and a clean bitterness.”
esters is correct, congrats!

1. Coors- my first beer that i consumed a full twelve pack of. i was 17 and knew nuthing of limits, but my body sure told me i had too much! not as good on the way up and out. this was also the first beer of choice since it was the most tolerable tasting one. we'd joke that no one drank beer for the taste, they'd just drink it to get drunk.......so nieve in my young age!

2. Keith's- i believe it's the esters? meg, am i right?

3. Busch Light - port huron, on the way to the Petty, 30 cans for $13.99 american, need i say more

4. Blue, Blue light, Sterling - support our good beer makers of London! and for thoses of us counting our carbs....mmmmm sterling

5. Carling light - recently an influx of beer drinkers must agree busch light is the beer of choice for premium cheap lager's, leaving little else to choose in the 12 for under $20 section since it's consistently sold out. it is pretty tastey with little aftertaste

You're one to talk Finny. I have evidence from a North Bay trip. You waking up and cracking open beer. Now who's the lush? ;P

There's a story for Matt's back in the day tales. Dan Gallagher, "Slow it down a bit boys!"

Posted by: Pauls on August 16, 2005 03:02 PM

it's only too easy because you're a lush, pauls. :)

Posted by: scotty on August 16, 2005 01:30 PM

Finny, this one is too easy. I can't believe you never thought of it before.

1. Stella - my all time favorite beer. Usually the first one I ask for. Prefer it out of the bottle, although if in the right bar, the Stella glass can't be beat! I love Stella so much, I named my cat after the beer.

2. Heinikin bottle and mini keg cans - second only to Stella. If they don't have Stella the Heinikins the one. The Keg cans are the best. No more drinking piss beer when going camping.

3. Moosehead cans - the beer of choice in my college days. It was deffinetly the beer of choice when camping. The boys used to be so impressed.

4. Okahaghan Pale Ale - usally draft, usally served at the concerts I go to and it's free. Can't really complain, becasue it is better than Blue or Canadian.

5. Becks - what can I say I like the imports. A nice ice cold Becks on a hot day, can't be beat!

3. Moosehead cans - great for

Happy to be the first to offer up my opinion on such an important topic - and suspicions confirmed scotty, blue would be the freshest beer you could consume, in london at least. is this perhaps in anticipation of your beer tonight?

1. Keiths - sooo good, but also Keiths Red and Keiths Light get a shout out if only they were available in the rest of canada

2. Stella - amber dark and heavy, not my typical beer, but yummy just the same

3. Sterling - my pride and joy

4. Rolling Rock - out of the states, my runner-up to Keiths for that DMS taste (that's the sulfurs to you lay-people)

5. Canadian - please don't tell - but you said period definition counted, and it got me into beer at The Bomber in waterloo (and if i never got into beer...)... please don't tell
