Top 5 Tuesday XXXXX

Welcome to the 50th edition of the Top 5. In an attempt to stop Killer from trying to split hairs, i am giving him a list in which he can freely and accurately post 'The Boss' without me riding his ass! That, and it's a nice follow up to last week.

Top 5 Solo Rockers

  1. Elvis. The King - what more needs to be said?
  2. Jerry Lee Lewis. I actually saw the Killer live once at Massey Hall for a Ronnie Hawkins birthday bash. He was, and is, pretty old, but back in the day nobody fucked with the Killer! He also won Blender mag's 'top rock n' roll badass' title, which is pretty cool too.
  3. Bowie. The guy has had more aliases than Killer Dave on a Saturday night, and has rocked equally as hard with all of them. He blew the minds of the Captain and myself here in London, and we (Killer, Vag, myself) also saw him go down at the Prague show while i was on vacation. Bowie gave it the old rock n' roll try though, and only packed it in when the pain became unbearable. That's rock n' roll, man!
  4. Janis Joplin. Check out the footage of Janis in the Festival Express movie, and you'll see why she's on this list - magnetic, baby!
  5. Ben Harper. While he always adds '& the Innocent Criminals', Ben is a solo artist at heart. You have to see him live to get the maximum impact; what i can only describe as a religious experience. Just ask the Bri Man - the latest convert!

Honourable Mentions - Prince. While not a 'rocker' per say, he's as lively and magnetic as they come. I will always regret not going to see him live, of which i've passed on the opportunity twice now. Fuck!

Glad to see it's still a big sausage party around here.

5. Dave Matthews - talented singer, song writer and performer.

4. Fiona Apple - with a line like "when you're lying limp in your own hands!" how could she not be in my top 5?

3. K-OS - I know it's hip hop and I normally wouldn't even listen to it, but K-Os isn't all about his biches and hoes. He puts on such a great show. I love how he leads in to Crab in the bucket, starts off with Hit the Road Jack! Nice tribute to my number 2.

2. Ray Charles - This guy was blind and a heroin addict and still came out with amazing music. Music that is still loved today!

1. Mr. Stevie Wonder - This man can play almost any instrument and lay the funk down like no other. He is still making music. His new video, What the Funk, has been made for the visually impaired as well. And, not only is Stevie still making music, you can hear is older stuff in the mucis we listen to today.

1. Neil "Fucking" Young! Always a treat to see Neil ply accoustic.....Greendale anyone?
2. David Gilmore! Oh yeah sweet solos.
3. Ozzy Osbourne! The man still gets his name on the marquee when he's playing w/Black Sabbath...God Bless Him, he's jumping!
4. Ben Harper....been fortunate to witness the man a couple of times to vouch for Scotty.
5. Tom Jones....I mean the guy still has panties thrown at him at every concert!
