As promised, and dedicated to the one and only killer dave, co-creator of the 'rockus for the cockus' anthology, which was inspired by metal vagina's original 'rockus' mix cd, here is part 2 of the ballads top 5. I know there are many more classics that i haven't touched on, but that's what you guys are here for, right?
Top 5 Cock Rock/Hair Band Ballads
- Love Song - Tesla. Epic classical guitar intro. Strong ballad format into blazing solo building into the stratospheric sing-along: 'love will find a way....'. Close with quiet ballad outro and we have what i consider to be the classic ballad for that generation. Anyone that has participated in a Palace jam has attempted this song with us in a drunken haze.
- I Remember You - Skid Row. The Skids rocked harder than a lot of the bands of the era, and were one of my faves for sure. They secured a coveted spot painted on the back of my white jean jacket (along with Motley, Poison & Faster Pussycat!) so it is no surprise they secure a high position on the list. Some may prefer the darker ballad 18 & Life, but i prefer the bittersweet strains of this fine track, not to mention the supreme belting of "the mouth" - frontman Mr. Bach.
- Heaven - Warrant. Somehow i ended up seeing Warrant 4-5 times during the era, and they put on one hell of a fun show. This track always brought the house down, and the lighters and shirts up. Although it is composed of the same chords as about 75% of all cock rock ballads, it stands slightly above the rest for some reason (see previous shirt-lifting).
- Don't Know What You Got - Cinderella. I love these guys. I love Tom Keifer's voice. Sit him at a piano and the magic of this track unfolds before us.
- Fly to the Angels - Slaughter. Another one of my top bands kicking out their top ballad. Stick It To Ya didn't leave my double cassette deck for years.

1. Motley Crue: She's Got the Looks (I actually was pissed off at the guy attempting it, so I ran from the back of the bar, crashed the stage, kicked him off, and started rocking the air guitar)
2. Skid Row: Youth Gone Wild (I made sure the DJ didn't cut the song short before the hot solo and preceeded to get the whole bar clapping along w/the drum solo)
3. AC/DC: You Shook Me w/all on stage (I nearly kicked the shit out of some druck idiot on the stage, climbed up on the amps to rock a solo as the DJ was saying "Canadian guy, pls get off the speakers" in Hungarian of course, proceeded to do a back to back solo w/the hot chick that won)
All in all, a pretty normal night at the Wigwam!
