Top 5 Tuesday Returns

It has been almost 2 years since my last top 5, and at least 6 months of general blog neglect, but now that i have hopefully eliminated or at least curtailed comment spam (save for all the existing crap i have to delete out of my comments) i figured i'd give it another shot. I was trying to think of some grand reemergence list, but decided to run with what i know - music. Let's spread the good word on current listening habits and share some good music!

Top 5 Current Favourite Listens

  1. Ryan Adams - Cold Roses. Fantastic double CD of Dead-esque country rock with tips of the hat to Neil Young and Chris Isaak.
  2. John Prine - Souvenirs. A current daily morning listen. Stripped down re-recording of some of his best.
  3. The Philadelphia Experiment. Self titled release featuring ?uestlove from The Roots on drums plus some other Philly cats laying down the funky jazz.
  4. Django Reinhardt - Django's Blues. One of the greatest jazz guitarists shines here on a selected Jazz in Paris compilation.
  5. Justin Timberlake - Justified. Ok, laugh as you will, but as i have recently been afforded the space to set up and practise my drums during the week, i was looking for some new grooves to jam along to. At least half of this album is groovy as hell, once you get past the cheese factor. Senorita has a killer drum groove, based around rimshots, an open hi-hat splash, breaks, and of course, the cowbell! Gentlemen, good night. Ladies, good morning.

Sorry I don't have any avant-garde picks like Finny, but here goes!

1. Green Day- American Idiot: Quite simply the best rock album of the past 5 years....simple as that
2. Ryan Adams- Cold Roses: Grows on me more and more with every listen 3. System of a Down- Mesmerize: Kick-ass metal with a message
4. Hot Hot Heat- Elevator: Catchy Shit
5. Jimmy Eat World- Futures: Still lovin' this one

And a Un-honourable mention to Dave Matthews Stand Up, it's been out for a week and a half and my pre-order still hasn't arrived in the mail. FUCK YOU DAVE MATTHEWS!

Hey Finny!!! The resurrection of the cowbell is upon us... finally. Thanks a mil for this top 5 - unfortunately, I have nada to post since all the music we get in Taiwan is shite (DMB and Jack have new albums?!? Where was I?). I will definitely be checking out everyone else's faves now!

Cheers for now.

Finally!!!! Finny, I'm glad to see you're back on your game. As for Justin...I have to admit I dug the album too. I had to listen to it at work. Turns out it does have some really good funk groves. Musically fantastic, lyrically meh! "Don't be so quick to walk away!"

My Top 5 Current Listens:

1. Hot Hot Heat - Elevator, their latest album. Lovin' it! If you enjoyed their first album "Make up the Break down", you'll love Elvator. They've got that 80's vibe that I just can't seem to get enough of right now. My favorite song...#5 "you owe me an IOU"

Hence #2. The Killers - Hot Fuss, I just can't seem to get enough of the Killers. I don't know if it's Brandon Flowers with his perfectly lined eyes, or the Duran Duran vibe of their music and videos. Very Tough Call!

3. The Havocs - Bad Day, an indie punk band from Sudbury, ON. Old school punk as it should be. Thanks to Mattay for intorducing me to this punk-a-licious band!

4. Blondie - Blondie's Greatest Hits, lovin' her vocals and attitude. Great to listen to, sing along with, and dance to before heading out for the evening. I'm sure most girls would agree!

5. A tie:
Xavier Rudd - To Let, an amazingly talented musician. When you see him perform live, it's just him, 4 Didgeridoos, stomp box, aztec drum, shaker, six and twelve string Acoustic/Electric Guitars, Weisseborn style Lap steel Guitar, and yes even vocals. This guy does it all himself and makes the most amazing music I have ever heard and is just a really cool guy. He is from Austrailia and performs with Jack Johnson, quite often.
&
The Weakerthans - Fallow, a band from Winnipeg, MT. I went to there show here in Vancouver at Richards on Richards. Was recently introduced to this awesome Canadian Indie band. Check these guys out.

Without warning it's back !!!Gotta love the top fives! Fo Shizzle!

1. Jack Johnson - In Between Dreams - Jack keeps on getting better. I don't go a day or two without listening to some Jack.
2. Springsteen - Devils And Dust - It's the Boss and an acoustic guitar, enough said.
3. DMB - Stand Up- Some really good songs on this, Still haven't decided were it stands on my personal DMB top five.
4. Sterophonics -"Language, Sex, Violence, Other? - never enough Brit pop
5. Green Day- American Idiot- Very few weak songs on this entire cd.

Cat! Very mellow top 5. Killar - still resurectin' tha 80s huh? LOL!! Atta boy. Just a comment about tha Justified. You don't know how many musician friends I have that LOVE that CD. I still haven't lookt inti it but remain one of the few round here that throw out all my respects to Mr. T. Saw him perform at SARSfest - get pelted with water bottles - and still come out and perform with tha Stones with nothing but good things to say. Maybe one day I'll give it a listen.
Peas.

I didn't know Bryan Adams was still yur favorite! It would seem that the disappearance of Killer has made my so called "Metal" friends a bunch of PUSSIES! My current top five includes:
1. Motley Crue-Red hot and Crue
2. Rockus for the Cockus
3. DMB-Stand Up
4. Pearl Jam-all shows that were handed to me from the last tour (I am still bitter about a CDN tour w/out me)
5. Sweet Gwen (I am a sucker for the rocker babes)

Good to see the site up again!
