So i'm sure anyone that has passed through here has noticed that i haven't posted for like a month. Apologies, yes, but as the great Jeff Lebowski once said, new shit has come to light. So here, in an attempted nutshell, is my past month.
I started by taking a month-long leave of absence from my job to focus on my true love, drumming. I went to Toronto for a couple of weeks to rehearse for a showcase with a new band featuring the MCs from Project Wyze. The new project, Dead Celebrity Status, leans more towards the hip hop than the heavy rock, which is cool and surprisingly groovy to play. The new setup consists of a pianist, myself, a DJ and the MCs.
So we rehearsed at Sony Music in Toronto right up until we left to play the showcase in LA, since we lost a couple of rehearsal days to the big blackout. We flew to LA this past Wednesday, played the showcase for i believe 8 different label reps, had Friday off to chill and flew back into Toronto Saturday afternoon. A whirlwind tour for sure, but a fab experience, as the showcase went very well and the guys are in meetings with some labels to determine the next step on the path to rock stardom. Should make for an interesting few weeks ahead as things get sorted out.
Being my first trip to LA, (and it was the best kind - expenses paid!) i was stoked about the trip itself as well as the reason for the trip. While we didn't have much free time on this trip, the following blurb sums up what i did manage to take in...
Limos, Rudy from Survivor I, pools and palms, Roosevelt Hotel, Sunset Strip, Rainbow Bar & Grill, Ron Jeremy, Singer from Slipnaught and subsequent drunken dissing of said band, Dresden Room, the showcase at SIR Studios, big boobs, cover charges, lack of sleep, all day breakfasts, Hustler store, missing Chris Isaak by 3 days, flight home waaaaay to early. To top it all off, there is a chance we may have to showcase again in a few weeks. Who says rock and roll is dead?
