Neil Young - A Novel Concept

Once again apologies for the Tuesday posting not containing a good old top 5; try grabbing some tunes from last week's list to tide you over! I think i will be excused due to the fact i was in Toronto last night with Steveo to catch Neil Young at the ACC. A little off track from what i expected, but nonetheless a great show - a pure Neil concept for sure. He's performing his new concept album, Greendale, in it's entirety. The only catch is that the album has yet to be recorded and released! So needless to say it was for the most part new to everyone, but what a crazy show! He had a full stage of theatre performers up there with him acting out the entire album, which takes place in small town Greendale. He had a porchfront, a jail cell, and many different town scenes coming up behind the band on a screen, which the actors performed in front of, about 6 feet above and just behind the drums. Crazy stuff. A nice bluesy/country tinge to most of the stuff. Am looking forward to checking the album for sure.

Then he dropped what most people were finally waiting for - a few classics! About a half-dozen tracks were played post-Greendale, including Hey Hey My My, Like a Hurricane, Roll Another Number For the Road, and my personal fave and the one track i was dying to hear, Powderfinger! All in all a solid show, and with Lucinda Williams opening up i have no complaints at all. On to Pearl Jam on Thurs! The mad week continues...
