I watched VH1 Fanclub the other night, and the band being worshipped was the Dave Matthews Band. I love DMB, and would definitely consider myself a fan, and with spare time and money on my hands would for sure travel around and take in many shows on a particular tour, as i've only been to one Dave show so far. There was this one guy on the show that worked for an airline, and took fandom to new heights as far as i'm concerned. He flys for free of course, and 2 days before the Rock in Rio concert he and a friend decided they should go. They live in Atlanta, and had to fly to Miami to apply for their visas, fly back to Atlanta to work that night, fly back to Miami the next day to pick up the visas, fly back to Miami to catch their flight to Rio, and then fly to the show for which they had no tickets, only to meet a guy, in first class of course, that was also flying down for the show and just happened to have spare tickets! So, that's 5 flights total over a 2 day period to head to a concert in another country that they weren't even sure they would be able to track down tickets for. In my opinion, that sets the new bar on the term "fanatic".
Anybody else out there have crazy fan stories that would approach this status? My best but not even close to this guy was piling 3 guys plus camping gear, coolers and a stereo into my old Supra (read: small!) and driving 14+ hours from here to Maine and back within a 3 day period to see Phish for the weekend (2 years in a row actually). A close second would be cashing in my only life insurance policy to buy Dead tickets for a couple of shows for me and a friend and then hitting the road dead broke in my way old Buick Regal. Wouldn't trade those experiences for the world!

Posted by: scotty on February 10, 2003 10:47 PMwell, i did the phish holiday run, not getting paid for 2 weeks and all, while i was deathly ill. now, i am leaving work on friday, picking up my ex-boyfriend (whom i convinced friday to go to the shows, found him very hard to find tickets an hour later) at san fran airport. we're driving all night to get to vegas. we'll see shows on saturday and sunday, drive all the way back to san fran after sunday's show. he'll get to see san francisco for the first time and his plane leaves at 10:20 p.m. i will then wake up at 6am to go to work again :)
music matters.
Posted by: laura on February 9, 2003 09:43 PMUmm well: Me, Selbie Sr and Trav drove my piece of shit Neon, 13 hours down to Dewey Beach Delaware (Think Grand Bend) to see the Hip play a couple of summers ago in a small club.
Fun. Rock Road trips are good.
Trav and I also peeled down to Cleveland to check out the Hall of Fame this summer that qualifies right?
