Top 5 Tuesday XXI

According to the popular suggestion count from last week's "poll" i have no choice but to make this week's topic Top 5 Vacation/Travel Destinations (that you want to hit up of course). Some great suggestions were made last week that will definitely make appearances in upcoming lists. Rock on, guys and gals.

Top 5 Vacation/Travel Destinations

  1. Machu Picchu - Peru. Saw some stunning photos from my aunt and cousins' trip/hike there last year and have added it to my list of places that need to be visited at some point during my lifetime.
  2. Pretoria - South Africa. Met a great South African character named Nils during my time in Budapest, who has graciously extended an invitation to his homeland any time he is back there. Must take him up on his hospitality!
  3. L.A. (with a side trip to Vegas). Chris and Larissa have been there, and are going back, and i'm going with them this time damn it! A little club hopping on Sunset Strip and running into aging rock stars from the 80s/90s scene sounds good to me!
  4. Australia/NZ. As with most people, i want to check this scene out at some point. Any spare bedrooms, Maddy? ;)
  5. Whistler/Blackcomb - B.C. (full season, ski bum) - For one ski season during my lifetime i want a season's pass and no job so every day can be a powder day!

Very Honourable Mention - My cousin and i, a long time ago, discussed the possibility and reality of hiking the entire Bruce Trail from down around the Niagara region up to Tobermory. I see no reason why this can't be done at some point in our lives when we both have a summer off - that can happen right?

P.S. - If you haven't already, you should really check out the SNL Cowbell skit (my domain's inspiration) that i mentioned has been found online. It's worth the 5 minutes of your time!

1. Afghanistan - Because I have this fascination with going
2. Australia - Because boys seem so much better looking when they cute accents
3. Scotland - see pt. # 2
4. Italy - Because it's warm and pretty and I had a fantastic cup of coffee there that I still fantasize about
5. Bali - Because despite the overabundance of tourism, the recent bombings and the rumours that Bali has been ruined forever, it's still one of the most beautiful places on Earth - especially once you're outside of Kuta

Hey mandy-- might wanna consider the x-canada trip starting in Victoria. I think you might be getting ready for a solid slow uphill ride otherwise. Keep me posted if you really get motivated though, i'm always up for a bike trip!

oooh, this is one I can play, as I'm perpetually planning trips...

1) Climbing trip in Europe- this means extended (is there any other kind) dirtbag style, living out of my car again.. ahh!

2) Same as above, in the US. I live next door, but I've seen so little!

3) Vietnam and Cambodia: I didn't get there last time, so on me bike I go again! Incidentally, there is some kick ass climbing in Veitnam...

4) India. Always been dreaming. Looking into a biking one here too- thinking south east coast...

5) Zimbabwe. Got family here, so I should really go visit, eh?

Finny, Janelle- might be a-movin back to Oz sometime in the next year or two, so you'll have a crash pad for sure!

I would love to go to Thailand. Start on the beaches then travel up the coast and end it all in the mountains. Amazing.

I want to ride my bike across Canada. Fly out to Halifax and end up with my family in Vic. How sweet would that be - a bag, my bike, and a shitload of trail.

Need to do the "crazy bastard" travel thing, I want to climb a big-ass mountain... Everest here I come.

All the Hawaiian islands. They're just too damn picture perfect, I need to see them.

I want to go to China, there's so much culture there. The great wall, the temples, etc. I definitely need to take advantage of Michelle & Alan's hospitality in Taiwan.

Havanna, Cuba. It is the most beautful city I have ever seen. I would love to spend a week or more there this time.

Australia. I actually have it planned out. I am going to visit friends in Perth than fly to Sydney and head north up the coast.

South America. I would love to see Brazil, Peru, Argentina. Spend time on the beaches, hiking the rainforests, shopping, what have you.

Thailand. Its cheap to the Canadian dollar, beautiful and hot!!
I also want to see surronding countries, Malaysia, Vietnam, Cambodia...

I would love to see all of Canada.
I want to do either a cross Canada train pass or just drive. That would be soo cool.

Ummm:

#5) Vegas baby. Just for the high cheese factor and the free drinks...

#4) Ireland. The Guinness has been calling me for years. Someday I will go...

#3) Spain. Madrid etc. Pretend I'm Hemingway covering a war...

#2) Russia. Think about it; you can feel like James Bond everywhere you go. Am I checking my watch for the time, arming a Nucleur device or taking spy pics for MI5?

#1) England. Summer 2004 Al goes and does all the Festivals. Reading, Glastonbury, Phoenix, Tea in the Park etc. You heard it here first.

Dammit I keep forgetting Jamaica.

Al

Mmm, Brad posted some amazing pictures from his trip to Machu Picchu, so I'd have to agree on that one. I could have gone on for hours, but my list is posted. I did kinda cheat with the US/Canada trip, but you did it with your #4!

Oh, and I don't know about a spare bedroom, but I'm sure I could stretch to sharing a blanket and maybe a pillow. ;)
