Good day all. Welcome to the dress-up edition of Top 5 Tuesday. With Hallowe'en fast approaching and the parties creeping up even faster, i thought i'd lay out a few ideas for costume parties, so this week's listing is Top 5 Costume Party Themes. Ideas can run anything from the standards to the slightly abstract to the absurd if you like. As long as it involves putting on some clothing or using some props not involved in your daily wear, it's fair game.

1. Magnum P.I. - A slight variation on the Hawaiian luau theme, which we rocked last year, guys must choose to be Magnum, Rick, TC or Higgins and the ladies can adapt to a more traditional Hawaiian garb or just throw on a bikini and be the girl Magnum is floating in the water during the opening credits. A moustache and crazy shirt are a must for any Magnum, with recommended Tigers hat and shorty shorts to top off the outfit.
2. White Trash- Already pressed into action for one of Paula's shindigs, the white trash look can be easily achieved by raiding any remaining stashes of 80s/early 90s wear, grabbing the mesh hat you use to cut the lawn, blacking out a few teeth and shrinking your tshirt 2 sizes too small. Mullets are mandatory. Kid Rock cds optional.
3. Bob Dylan Characters - This is one of the most interesting ones i've come across of late. I read about the idea in the liner notes to Dylan's Biograph collection, and there are many characters indeed, from Mr. Tambourine Man to Hattie Carroll, the choice is yours. I'd probably be stuck inside of mobile with the memphis blues again. Definitely need to try this one with the proper assembly of Dylanites.
4. 80s Rock Star - The video generation provided more than enough tacky eye candy to fill rooms with neon-coloured-poofy-haired party guests. Everybody Wang Chung tonight.
5. Toga - The tried and true classic, the failsafe, the legendary Animal House-esque collection of sheeted persons that are 3 sheets to the wind, and probably shortly thereafter, 2 sheets to the floor. And i've yet to attend one. I suck!
